OBJECTIVE

This workshop explores acrobatics within the context of contemporary dance. The proposed movement patterns will challenge our 360-degree awareness of the body as we move through space and explore inversions.

There will be a focus on our relationship to the spine, floor, and space, placing emphasis on undulating patterns, stacking weight, finding suspension, and building momentum through the use of “fall and catch”.

The goal of this workshop is to offer participants technical tools to facilitate their continued exploration into more complex acrobatic sequencing.

CONTENT

Throughout the week and in each class, transitions on and off the floor will progress energetically from slow and controlled to dynamic and propulsive. Improvisational explorations serve to guide us toward discovering our body’s most efficient pathways and opening ourselves to new possibilities.

All acrobatic techniques will be introduced gradually, with multiple progressions. This approach ensures that participants can adjust according to their comfort level and prior experience.
