OBJECTIVE

Vladimir, also known as 7Starr, develops in this new workshop a Krump method that allows dancers from all backgrounds to maximize their strength and power. Participants will be introduced to the psychological and emotional aspects that greatly inspire Krump. This class will mainly focus on parallels between concepts and emotions. Participants will learn the concepts and tools used in Krump for creating and improvising. The goal is to develop bodily impulsiveness and reduce the gap between our ideas and how they manifest in the body.

CONTENT

This workshop will include :

Basic techniques: Learn the fundamentals of krump dance

Teamwork: The goal is to draw inspiration from one another to create in a spontaneous and organic way

Drills: Our objective through drills is to make the participant comfortable with the vocabulary

“Think n do” exercise: An exercise designed to better understand the dynamic between what a person is doing vs what they are thinking and how it affects their capacity to express themselves

BIOGRAPHY

Vladimir ”7Starr” Laurore is a pioneer of the Canadian Krump scene. In 2005, he co-founded the first Krump crew in Canada, Bzerk Squad. 7Starr co-created Gutta Zone, the first and largest Krump event in the country. He has been a judge/contestant at national and international competitions such as The International Illest Battle in Paris, EBS in Germany, The Phitted Talk in the U.S. and Royal Rumble in Switzerland, to name a few.

He worked with Cirque Eloize and Moment factory, and has made television appearances, and numerous performances. 7Starr is equally recognized for his community involvement, his conferences, and his teaching in primary schools, secondary schools, universities, charitable organizations and community centres. He is currently president of the Montreal Krump Alliance, a non-profit organization that specializes in promoting Krump culture across Canada.

In 2017, he received the Victor Martyn Lynch Staunton award given by the Canada Council for the Arts for his exceptional artistic work. In 2018 the Black Theatre Workshop awarded him the Gloria Michell-Aleong award. In 2019 7Starr collaborated with Lucy M. May as co-choreographer for the piece Anima/Darkroom, a solo performance lasting 60 minutes. In 2020 7Starr won “Découverte de l’année” at the Prix de la danse de Montréal, and made his debut in Krump music by collaborating with producers such as Dj Shashu, Mozart, and Braze.
